Calculation details & data source

A 30% drawdown is applied to the peak balance. Investment-only gain needed is peak / remaining balance − 1; it is not finite after a total loss. Recovery paths apply the entered constant net monthly return, then add the monthly deposit at month-end. Each path stops at the first whole month at or above the prior peak; unrecovered paths are displayed up to the chart horizon, capped at 120 months. “Balance restored” includes new deposits when entered and is not the same as earning back the trading loss. The no-deposit path shows investment-only recovery. Target-month return is the minimum non-negative constant monthly return needed with the entered deposits. No losing months, return uncertainty, inflation or extra fees are modeled beyond the entered net return.
